New Zealand singer Kimbra’s 2011 debut album Vows brought her instant commercial and critical success; the record went Top Five in her homeland and Top 15 in the U.S., its unique blend of pop, jazz, R&B, and rock spurring comparisons to such artists as Björk, Rufus Wainwright, Jeff Buckley, and (particularly for its “Plain Gold Ring” cover) Nina Simone. Now, for its 15th anniversary, Kimbra herself has pulled from all the different versions to program and sequence a definitive, expanded 2-LP edition, offering 18 tracks and over 80 minutes of remastered music inside a stunning gatefold package housing two LPs tucked inside printed “Euro Sleeves.” One LP pressed in white with black streaks, the other in black with white streaks, completes a fully realized artistic statement that connects both musically and visually.
